Teahupoo Weather

Tahiti-bungalow is located in Teahupoo, not far from the extreme southeastern tip of the island of Tahiti. This advantageous positioning offers a well-defined microclimate different from the rest of Tahiti, which you must understand to make your vacation a success! Two seasons exist:

  • Matarii i raro (April/May to October/November): the constellation of stars called Pleiades disappears from the Polynesian sky until next year. It is the period of less abundance for fruits, vegetables and even fish at sea. In Teahupoo, it is the season of the trade winds called Mara'amu (southeast winds) which bring a little freshness and also some rain. It is also the season for south and southwest swells coming from the southern hemisphere. In short, it's our tropical winter at 20/25 degrees!

It's the ideal time for wind enthusiasts, surfers from all over the world, those who don't like the heat too much, who love the gentleness of the wind, the sunsets on Fare Mahora Point, hiking while sweating less... .

  • Matarii i nia (October/November to April/May): the Pleiades are back in the Polynesian sky. Land and sea food returns in abundance. The trade winds calm down and the waves are smaller in the ocean. The rains become much rarer here (unlike the rest of Tahiti!) because the Mara'amu (southeast trade winds) no longer blows! This allows for even more drier hikes, especially those subject to the weather risks of swell and rain. The number of sunny days is at its maximum, the sun sets directly into the calm sea. Even amateur fishing is easier! Outings to the Pari coast, on foot or by boat excursion, are much more likely... It's summer, it's more like 30°!

Vainoho

Wide, easy, shaded path, birdsong and views of the lagoon at times. At the beginning there is a “marae”, completely hidden in the bush, an archaeological vestige of an ancestral dwelling place called Fare Ana. Then arrived at the small waterfall after 30 minutes, overlooked by its small swimming pool. You can continue to climb the catchment path to the end for the pleasure of walking longer in the tropical forest.

You tara

The pyramid: climb to the top of the pyramid which overlooks your house to admire this now famous view of the surf spot, the Teahupo'o lagoon and the Fauoro valley. You can stop there, under the tree...or continue to the top in less than an hour! The view is splendid and memorable!

The Tiirahi valley and its Fauoro river

This is the large main valley of the village of Teahupo'o. There is no marked trail but the climb up the river bed is not difficult. After an hour, the first baths are available to you, a beautiful waterfall on the side of the rock, etc. The view of the deep valley, its rhino horn, in the distance, is splendid throughout the walk.

The Hotu Tonu valley and its Vaiorofau river

A well marked and easy to follow trail. First bath at the edge of a rock wall (“mato”) after 10/15 minutes of walking in this valley. Approximately an hour later, you arrive at the canyon housing the large waterfall and its natural swimming pool: impressive energy of the waterfall and regenerative power of the fresh water bath!

The big secret waterfall

You can walk to the foot of the big waterfall that you see from your house, on the left of the Fauoro River. Impressive height. At the beginning: a lively stream of clear water and green moss rocks: a small and pretty classic tropical river...Continue to the foot of the large waterfall, which you will reach after approximately an hour.

By being dropped off by a taxi-boat

Vaiarava

The largest valley of fenua Aihere! This hiking trail, well traced by the army and maintained by successive hikers, was a famous raid at the end of the 90s and allowed people to reach the Vaitephia valley to cross the peninsula between the two municipalities of Tautira and Teahupo. 'o. Plan a whole day to enjoy the numerous swimming pools, large waterfalls (including the famous double waterfall at the foot of which you can swim) and other jacuzzis and go up to the two large basins 7 km away from the coast. The baths are numerous and sublime, the view of Pic Teure and the great valley is impressive. This hike is a “classic” of the Tahiti peninsula!

Toanoano

At the start: two cannons dating from the Second World War and a reproduction of the famous two-headed Marquesan tiki. This hike does not have a trail but the progress in the river bed is quite easy. After an hour and a half of walking in the lush greenery, the first swimming pools and jacuzzis appear and become more and more beautiful and powerful as you go up!

Te Pari

Passable only in very mild weather, mainly from November to April: without swell or wind! Te Pari means "the cliff" in Tahitian and represents the extreme south-eastern coastal zone of Tahiti, without a lagoon, and bordered by volcanic cliffs falling into the ocean: waterfalls which end in the sea, white sand coves between the black rocks and numerous natural and cultural sites: the Puna stone, the small lavatube, the FareAra basin, the large Faaroa valley, its refuge and its marae, the bays of Taapeha and the birthing stone, their waterfall, the plateau hunchbacks, the queen's bath...Between land and sea, combining mountains, rivers and ocean: an atypical and memorable hike. Plan a whole day but half a day can be enough to organize a short walk on only one section of the Pari .

The Vaia'u valley

Its Vaipoiri River can be reached a few meters by boat and has become a tourist attraction for boat trips. On the other hand, few people venture into its magnificent valley! Get dropped off in the river and find the path on the left side going up, after the rope where the children jump into the river...The walk begins with a lush Mape forest, trees with mystical trunks. There are several naturalist information signs at the start of the path. The dark and legendary cave in which you can swim to the bottom and which bears the name of Vaipoiri is closed to the public due to the risk of landslides...Walk again on the path as far as possible before entering the bed of the river to continue your exploration……

The great Vaiava waterfall

Arriving by boat at Vaipoiri; the large waterfall, on the left, in the previous valley, is unmissable! It is gigantic and magnificent! If it is not possible to go to the foot of it, going up its valley represents a superb walk: you have the view of this majestic waterfall all along and you approach it little by little, this which is very impressive...we end up arriving, after less than 2 hours of walking, at two beautiful waterfalls, much smaller and very pretty, which prevent us from going any further. Ideal place for a well-deserved picnic break!
